Episode 22: Mick Baron (Eaglehawk Dive Centre)
The interview guest in this episode is Mick Baron. Since growing up in Penguin on the coast of North-west Tasmania, Mick has spent his life on and in the ocean. Following completion of a science degree in Hobart, he spent 20 years plying the seas as an observer on foreign and Australian fishing vessels. While still in that profession, Mick, together with a business partner in 1991, established the Eaglehawk Dive Centre. As co-owner of the diving business for the past 30 years (and as a diver for 50 years), this marine biologist, naturalist, camera-man and producer for underwater video photography, is very well placed to provide perspectives on the changes that have taken place in the Tasmanian marine environment. In addition to talking about all of the aforementioned, you will hear Mick give his graphic, first hand account of the loss of the forests of giant kelp in SE Tasmania.
