Episode 23: Karen Gowlett-Holmes (Eaglehawk Dive Centre)

The interview guest in this episode is Karen Gowlett-Holmes, who is a marine biologist, specialising in marine invertebrates and until recently was the Marine Invertebrates Collection Manager at CSIRO. Karen is an internationally acclaimed underwater photographer, and also a science communicator/educator. She is also co-owner of the Eaglehawk Dive Centre on the Tasman Peninsula (SE Tas). You will hear Karen talk of her path from her early childhood fascination with marine creatures in the intertidal to becoming one of Australia's foremost taxonomic experts for chitons and other marine invertebrates, and also to becoming a specialist in deepsea marine invertebrate fauna. She also relates the challenges and the necessary skills for achieving good photos of marine fauna; photos that are not only spectacularly beautiful but are also photos that meet the various scientific needs.
