Episode 98: A new study comparing past and recent stock assessments across 230 fisheries worldwide...And more…

In lieu of an interview guest, in this episode Craig reads four recently published articles with marine flavours. The first two articles are sourced from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania: A new study has compared past and recent stock assessments across 230 fisheries worldwide and found their sustainability was overstated, having implications for fisheries management and consumer awareness; and, A repeat survey to investigate changes in marine fauna (vertebrate and invertebrate) in the Beagle Marine Park in Bass Strait. The third article is sourced from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS): Explaining why high coral cover has been observed on the Great Barrier Reef, even amid intense heatwaves and bleaching. And the last article, from Hakai Magazine - Coastal Science and Societies (Canada): The challenge of overcoming fishers' resistance to the new conservation-focused technology of ropeless fishing in the sea bass pot fishery of east coast USA.
