Episode 9: Dr Rich Hillary (CSIRO)
The guest in this episode is Dr Rich Hillary, a Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere. Rich is a mathematician who works on ecological models of marine species with a primary focus on developing robust approaches for use in real word management applications. You will hear Rich relate his early path through university and postdoctoral fellowship in the UK to working on Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) with CSIRO and his interesting description of the ‘processes’ of tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (most notably the Commission for the Conservation of SBT). Rich also talks about his work with the research team who have applied Close Kin genetics to exploring population size and population boundaries of Great White Sharks and other species.
