Episode 84: Dr Beth Fulton (CSIRO) – Part 1
Craig’s interview guest in this episode is Dr Beth Fulton, Senior Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Environment. Based at CSIRO’s Marine Laboratories in Hobart, Beth has spent over 20 years developing various system modelling tools for looking at marine ecosystems and sustainability. The common theme underlying her work has been the development of system-scale decision support tools in support of sustainable management of potentially competing uses of marine environments and adaptation to global change. In this Part 1, Beth talks engagingly and entertainingly of her upbringing and schooling in country NSW through to her undergraduate years at James Cook University, PhD at University of Tasmania, and onto the postdoctoral fellowship at CSIRO which led to her pioneering development of the internationally renowned ecosystem model Atlantis. You will also hear Beth relate insights around the challenges of communicating the application, goals and benefits of Atlantis and other ecosystem-based models to industry. Part 2 of Beth’s interview will feature in the next episode of Vibes Under The Sea.
