Episode 82: Addressing knowledge gaps about Sand Flathead...and more.

In lieu of an interview guest, in this episode Craig reads four recently published on-line articles with marine flavours. The first article, from the website of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania, describes a new collaboration to address the scientific knowledge gaps about Sand Flathead’s biology, movement and growth, to assist the species’ recovery. The other articles include: A new environmental monitoring program in Storm Bay that is revealing exactly how the local marine environment is responding to salmon aquaculture (from IMAS website); RV Investigator’s current voyage to investigate why the deep ocean currents near Antarctica are slowing, whether the Southern Ocean will continue to absorb heat and carbon dioxide, and how clouds form over the Southern Ocean (a CSIRO media release); and Avian influenza is likely to reach Antarctica after already killing millions of birds around the world (from IMAS website).
