Episode 81: Dr Peter Last (CSIRO) - Part 2
This episode follows directly on from the previous episode which featured Part 1 of Craig's interview with ichthyologist, Dr Peter Last, currently a post-retirement Honorary Fellow at CSIRO in Hobart. In Part 2 we hear Peter talk of many interesting things, including several 'wow moments' during his career to date that relate to particular fish species and/or particular research surveys. These include the Enigma skate in the northern Coral Sea, Bleeker's rays in Indonesia, the Green sawfish in northern Australia, icefish (Halaphritis) and Maugean skate in Port Davey, Sulu Sea chondrichthyans in Philippines, and Ningaloo mask ray. The history of Handfish species in Tasmanian waters also gets strong mention as do faunal assemblages across biogeographical boundaries and species' range shifts under influence of climate change.
