Episode 74: Dr Pollyanna Hilder (CSIRO)

Craig's guest for this episode is Dr Pollyanna Hilder, a Research Scientist with CSIRO’s Agriculture Health and Production Team, and former Manager of the Experimental Aquaculture Facility for salmon at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (University of Tasmania). Pollyanna (aka "Polly") has over 30 years of experience in aquaculture, working in industry, academic and governance sectors and doing research on numerous species including salmon, bluefin tuna, yellowtail kingfish and striped trumpeter, to mention a few. Polly is currently a key member of the white flesh fish project, based at CSIRO's Bribie Island Research Centre in Queensland, which is investigating the aquaculture potential of the tropical species pompano (Trachinotus anak ), also known as the Giant oystercracker. You will hear Polly relate how the research aims to build a sustainable farming model focused on biology, circular economy, welfare, production systems, feed, breeding and consumer demand.
