Episode 62: Dr Ingrid van Putten (CSIRO) (Copy)

Craig's interview guest in this episode is Dr Ingrid van Putten, a Senior Research Scientist and member of the Marine Socio-Ecological Systems team at the CSIRO Marine Laboratories in Hobart. For the past 15 years Ingrid's research has had an interdisciplinary focus to try and understand social and economic behaviours of marine resource users (fisheries, aquaculture, recreation, and other marine sectors) and their interactions with the biophysical marine environment. Her approach is using environmental economics to understand socio-ecological interactions and using behavioural economics to better understand how, when and where to implement incentives and policy solutions. You will hear Ingrid relate her interesting and varied path to marine science, which included time as an ambulance officer in a Tasmanian rural community. Her recent research activities have included as member of a project team investigating the market chains and socio-economic dynamics of products (shark fins and fish swim bladders) derived from illegal fishing in Papua New Guinea. That plus much more!
