Episode 35: Els Wakefield

The interview guest for this episode is Els Wakefield, an avid ornithologist, botanist and artist. Els has a particular expertise and wealth of knowledge for gulls and other seabirds, and you will hear her relate how her interest in birds and well-honed skills in "spotting" developed from when she was young. Among many things, Els talks about the earlier ornithological research that she did with her husband, Bill Wakefield, on Tasmania's coastal islands, including the banding of a great many birds of various species. Some of those birds have been 'recaptured' in recent times, requiring a reset of thinking on their maximum age.
