Episode 15: Robin Pettman (retired commercial fisherman) – Part 1

This episode marks an expansion of Vibes Under The Sea, to start including guests who are not marine scientists as such, but who have strong connections to the sea. Robin Pettman is a former commercial fisherman, who has spent the majority of his 77 years to date living at Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula, plying the waters of the southeast and west coasts of Tasmania. You will hear Robin relate stories from his early family history, including the finfish (e.g. trevally, trumpeter, perch) fishing done by his father and fellow Eaglehawk Neck fishers in the early days. Robin tells of his experiences as deckhand and then as skipper on several vessels;  fishing for crays and also operating tuna fishing charters during the off-season. Robin is a gifted story-teller, incorporating a good dose of wit and humour into his tales, some of which include facts of history of the local marine environment that all will find interesting.
