Episode 110: Jeff Cordell (Cordell Marine) - Part 2 and more....
This episode features Part 2 of my interview with Jeff Cordell, who is a specialist in marine electronics. Jeff was a Senior Technical Officer at the CSIRO Marine Laboratories in Hobart for 34 years, and following retirement, he established his own firm Cordell Marine, specialising in instruments and electronics for sailing vessels. In addition to being a marine sparky, Jeff is also a passionate yachtsman, with sailing having been and continuing to be a very big part of his life. In this Part 2 we hear Jeff relate the challenges of being Commodore of a large yacht club and about his serious health battle, which he fortunately survived! In the second half of the episode I read two recently published articles that come with marine flavours: Firstly, an article on the Antarctic Biodiversity Database and its coverage of ice-free areas of the frozen continent; and then an article on the thorny question of whether deep-sea mining can be of benefit to all of humanity? - sourced from Hakai Magazine (British Columbia, Canada).
